Parenting Teenagers!

  • Adirondack Community Counseling 28 Saint Bernard Street Saranac Lake, NY, 12983 United States (map)

You know the eye rolls, the "whatever," and focusing on friends, phones, video games and everything else besides talking to parents mode. Where did the little person that used to be excited to tell me about their day went? Does everything you say seem to fall on deaf ears or be met with a shrug or some other comment? What is happening and how do I get in touch with my teen?

A lot of what is happening with your teen is normal separation from parents and creation of individuality of your child. It doesn't mean it's easy or you like it. It might feel like a shut out. You might be worried about your teen falling into peer pressure and worried about them making poor choices. Maybe they are experimenting with everything from self-image, friends, sexuality and dating, substances etc. Even if they are making positive choices, how to do create some kind of connection with them during this transition into adulthood?  How do you talk in a way that they might listen to what you have to say? How can you as a parent make the transition of your child preparing to enter adulthood and independence?

Take an evening and chat with other parents who might feel similar to you. Come away with some ideas on how to create a better connection with your teen and be assured as a parent.

Pizza provided. $10 suggested donation.
